It's Just a Game
When Lacey told us our homework was to bring in a game I was so confused as to why. As I looked around the classroom I saw everyone playing games on either their Iphones or board games and still didn't understand why. I was not until we started talking to our group members about what they chose to bring in and when I actually began to understand. I noticed that many of my classmates were interacting with students that they don't normally talk to and I think that was one of the purposes of the games.
For the "game" assignment, I chose to download the app called, Words with Friends. This game is basically an app for scrabble. Each player is given seven letters to trying to spell out a word with. Each letter used is worth so many points. The other player then has to try to pay a word using one of the letters that is already on the board. This forces the players to try to spell out large words that will give them the most points.
I started playing games, such as this one, with my aunts, uncles, cousins and even my grandma. She loves to play games with us because she knows we are thinking about her. Not only do I think Words with Friends is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends, but it can also be very beneficial for ones intelligence. By playing a game like Words with Friends, you are expanding each others vocabulary. You are teaching each other new words while enjoying a friendly game.
Words with friends is a great game that people can use to sort of waste time, keep in touch with family or friends, or learn something like a new word.
ReplyDeleteI think that this game really shows how much games really mean to us as well as the importance they have to our development. We learn to use parts of our brains that we don't usually use and in a way that we enjoy unlike some boring way found in a classroom. Words with Friends really is a cool game to expand your social circle in a way that has only been possible because of the internet.
ReplyDeleteWords with friends is a great game because for one, we are playing with peers therefor learning with peers, and two we are learning useful information about words and spelling.
ReplyDeleteHi Morgan I'm from Lacy"s 11:00 class and I too was confused as to why we were asked to play games in a college English Class! But I understand now and love the concept!
