It's Just a Game

When Lacey told us our homework was to bring in a game I was so confused as to why. As I looked around the classroom I saw everyone playing games on either their Iphones or board games and still didn't understand why. I was not until we started talking to our group members about what they chose to bring in and when I actually began to understand. I noticed that many of my classmates were interacting with students that they don't normally talk to and I think that was one of the purposes of the games.

For the "game" assignment, I chose to download the app called, Words with Friends. This game is basically an app for scrabble. Each player is given seven letters to trying to spell out a word with. Each letter used is worth so many points. The other player then has to try to pay a word using one of the letters that is already on the board. This forces the players to try to spell out large words that will give them the most points.

I started playing games, such as this one, with my aunts, uncles, cousins and even my grandma. She loves to play games with us because she knows we are thinking about her. Not only do I think Words with Friends is a great way to keep in touch with family and friends, but it can also be very beneficial for ones intelligence. By playing a game like Words with Friends, you are expanding each others vocabulary. You are teaching each other new words while enjoying a friendly game.

Games

We have been talking about different types of games from non-games to video games. At first I was unsure what a non-game was until I slowly started to see examples on the board. I came to my own conclusion that they are activities that are beneficial to ones learning. String games, for example, allow someone to use their creativity to expand and try new tricks. Other activities, such as playing the guitar, are beneficial to ones intelligence. Not only can it help you develop character and self-esteem, but it is also known to help increase one's IQ. Video games on the other hand can do the complete opposite. My little brother loves to play Call of Duty all the time. It can not be healthy to go around killing people and brag about it. This means he is sitting in the house staring at a television all day and not being very active. He is only thirteen so he should be running around and playing games outside with his friends. When I grow up and have children of my own I will make sure they stay active.

The "Perfect Guy"

We are always expecting perfection in guys. We are constantly comparing them to characters in movies and television shows. We look at Noah from The Notebook, Sean from The Bachelor and John from Dear John and say that we want to have a guy like that, but is their such thing as a perfect guy? Is their a Prince Charming out there or do they only appear in fairy tales? Better yet, do we really want a guy who is perfect? I feel that girls really just want to feel special and loved. My idea of a perfect guy would be someone who can make me laugh, supports my dreams and wants the same things out of life as I do. This means someone who wants to get married one day and have a family. However, some girls may not be looking for the same thing in a guy. Their may be no such thing as a "perfect guy," but I know that their is a perfect guy out there for me.
