Ignite Video

1. We learned a lot of different things in English this year but some that stood out to me were Academic Conversation Geeking Out, How to Make/ Respond to Blog Posts, Master and Little Narratives, String Games and How to Make a Day Book/ Free Write. 2. I had a lot of fun learning and playing new games. This will be helpful for me when I become a teacher because these are all ideas of what I can do with my students one day. 3. The thing that seems like it will be most useful for me would have to be the universal blogs. I realized that their on blogs about everything, including teacher blogs. These blogs have tips on what works and what doesn't work and a bunch of activities that I could do one day. 4. All of the games that we learned are also games that I will be able to play with my students. I think the string games for example are very educational games because it's a good and fun way to teach students how to follow instructions. 5. We also learned about the HOMOGO essentials, which consists of "hanging out," "messing around," and "geeking out." However, I am mainly going to focus on geeking out in my presentation. 6. Geeking out is when you become obsessed with something and cant get enough of it. This could be when you download a new app on your phone and play it all the time. 7. I chose the topic of geeking out because I honestly thought it sounded funny. However, I also felt like it is a topic that I can relate to. Here is a picture of my roommate playing a new game that she loves on her phone. 8. My own experience with geeking out is when I was five and wanted this baby doll for Christmas. I told everyone how awesome it was and how badly I wanted it. 9. I talked about how real it was because it could cry, laugh and suck it's thumb. I finally got it for Christmas and I never put it down. I took it with me everywhere I went. 10. This is actually a picture of me on Christmas morning when I got my cool new baby doll. A good metaphor for geeking out is the feeling you got as a child on Christmas morning and got a brand new toy. 11. However, I soon got bored with my baby and she ended up in the garbage not long after. Which, I feel like happens. We can only be interested in something for so long before we get bored and want to move on to something new. 12. An example of this is when you play a specific game during your free time and you can't stop playing until you make it to the next level or get a higher score. 13. This happened to a lot of people with the game temple run. This came out before I even had an iPhone but I knew what temple run was because everyone talked about it. They always bragged or tweeted about breaking 1 Million on it. 14. However, not as many people play temple run anymore. I feel like our class started to really get into the app llama duck and began to geek out about it. People would compare scores and want to prove that they could do better than one. 15. Geeking out does not always have to be game game on your phone. It could be a hobby like soccer, tennis, or I know someone is really into horseback riding and someone else did their blog post on geeking out about cars. You can also geek out about legos, or I know that I have spent long hours on the computer watching an entire season of a show on Netflix. 16. It's not something that I enjoy talking about, but you could geek out about politics, religion, celebrities, fashion, pinterest. This one is more specific to me, but teaching. I also feel like ignite videos are the perfect examples of geeking out because it is people talking about something that they are passionate about. 17. I feel like everyone can relate to this because we all get frustrated at times when we can't get that high score or next level, yet we continue to try. This can make geeking out be a negative thing. 18. It can also become a waste of time because we lose track of time wile looking at pinterest and watching shows on Netflix. I should be spending my time studying or being more productive. 19. It can also get annoying when other people who do not share the same interests as you may not want to listen to you go off about how much you like something. 20. You can also bring academic conversation into geeking out. Mimi Ito talks about geeking out, but it doesn't have to be boring. All you have to do is pick a topic that is interesting to you and pull in other people's ideas or point of views on your topic.
